A seven-day indoor market is tipped to hit County Durham later this year after a business group was looking for stall owners to fill in what is hoped to be a successful venture. .

The proposed marketplace, which will be at Byron Place shopping center in Seaham, will attempt to bring together independent businesses from across the region on a trial schedule by the end of 2022.

It is expected to initially have a maximum of ten traders who can sign up for 12 weeks, which could then become more frequent.

So far no date has been set for the market opening, but it is expected at some point in 2022.

In a statement posted online earlier this week, the indoor market was confirmed with some other details about the new concept.

It read: “Byron Place is about to start opening its indoor market seven days a week and wants local businesses to get in on it and bring something new to the Seaham community.

“You asked and we listened – this is for you.

“We are looking for individual traders who are happy to sign up for a 12-week initial launch.

“There will be a minimum of ten stall owners to start with and you can use your own existing setup, with gazebos and tables.

“The mall will regularly promote your indoor market to increase your awareness, footfall, and sales.”

Currently, Byron Place shopping mall boasts ASDA, Home Bargains, Greggs, B&M and Wilko among others.
