Homes England has appointed a new director of affordable housing.
Current assistant director of affordable housing funding agency Shahi Islam, has been promoted and will take up the role in January as current incumbent Jackie Jacob retires.

Jacob, who worked at Homes England and its predecessor organizations for 32 years, announced in October that she would leave the company at the end of the year.
Islam has worked at Homes England since 2013, serving as assistant director of affordable housing at Homes England for the past three and a half years, before which he was head of affordable housing grants and administration. Senior level program and policy manager.

Homes England said it had appointed Muslims “following a competitive recruitment process”.
Homes England is currently tasked with managing around £16.5 billion of funding, including an affordable housing scheme worth £11.5 billion over 2021-2026. The agency in May signaled a shift towards a focus on brownfield regeneration and taking greater account of social value when assessing plans.
