India vs England, 1st Test, Day 4 Highlights: Hartley picks 7 wickets, drives ENG to 28-runs victory against IND

India vs England, 1st Test, Day 4 Highlights: Ind vs Eng, England on Day 4 destroyed India’s batting order in the first Test played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, as they defeated the hosts by 28 runs.

England’s Ollie Pope had almost a double century in the second innings and the English players, especially debutant Tom Hartley, who picked 7 wickets, stumped the Indian batsmen fall and lose momentum. India could only score 202 runs and bowled out 69.2 overs.

This was India’s fourth loss at home in 48 Tests and the biggest ever loss by a visiting team on Indian soil, in terms of first innings deficit.

After winning on Day 1, England made 246 runs, with Ben Stokes (70) and Jonny Bairstow (37) scoring the most. For India, Ashwin and Jadeja picked up three trophies, while Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah picked up two each.

Responding to England’s 246, India posted 436, all thanks to Ravindra Jadeja (87), KL Rahul (86), Yashasvi Jaiswal (80) and Axar Patel (44). For England, Joe Root picked four wickets, Tom Hartley and Rehan Ahmed took two each, while Jack Leach claimed one.

In the second innings, England’s Ollie Pope (196) almost achieved a double century, while the rest of the players hardly impressed. For India, Bumrah picked 4 players, Ashwin took 3, Jadeja 2 and Axar Patel 1.

However, the Indian batsmen failed miserably against the English batsmen, especially debutant Tom Hartley, who picked 7 wickets. Jack Leach and Joe Root each took one.

India will face England in the second Test at the ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam from February 2.

India vs England Day 4: Highlights so far

1) As soon as the match started, Ollie Pope himself took two quick singles which helped him cross the 150 run mark.

2) Jasprit Bumrah continued his deadly reverse attack against the two English batsmen and was eventually scored for 28 by Rehan Ahmed. Ahmed played a no-hitter, hitting the curve and KS Bharat did not make any mistake.

3) Tom Hartley and Ollie Pope combined at good times with Hartely being the aggressor of both and targeting the Indian spinners with his feet. The duo scored 80 runs in 106 deliveries and helped England cross the 400-run mark.

4) Hartley was finally dismissed in the 34th minute with a ball that went wide of Ashwin’s goal.

5) Soon after, Mark Wood was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja for a duck. Wood tried to protect the ball, but the line went straight towards the goalkeeper, who made no mistake.

6) The final victim of the innings against England was Ollie Pope, who tried to block a slower delivery from Jasprit Bumrah but missed it completely and the ball broke his stumps. Pope made 196 not out and fell short of a well-deserved double century.

7) Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the scoring for India in the second innings in their bid to chase down the target of 231 runs.

8) Axar Patel (17) Out on the fourth delivery, when Hartley picked his bat. This was Hartley’s fourth goal in the rounds.

9) India scored 100 runs in 31.4 overs (190 balls)

10) KL Rahul (22) Out on Joe Root’s 4th delivery LBW.

11 ) Ravindra Jadeja (2) Ben Stokes RUN OUT on the first delivery on 39. This was the first time Jadeja RUN OUT in Test Cricket.

12) Shreyas Iyer OUT off Leach’s second delivery when Joe Root took a catch.

13) 8th Wicket partnership of 50 runs off 123 balls (KS Bharat 28, R Ashwin 23, Ex 2)

14) KS Bharat (28) Bowled by Hartley in the last delivery on 62. With this, things look better for Hartley.

15) Ashwin OUT on his second delivery of 64 through STUMPS. This was Tom Hartley’s sixth hit.

16) 5:00 pm: The match was extended by 30 minutes after Ben Strokes asked for an extension when India were 9 down.

17) India completed 200 runs in 68.2 overs (411 balls).

18) Siraj (12) Wobbled on his second delivery of 70, as debutant Tom Hartley picked up his seventh wicket.

19) With this achievement, England defeated India 28 times. India scored 202 in 69.2 overs. This was India’s fourth loss at home in 48 Tests since 2013.
