Dom Young is a top winger.
We saw that at the World Cup when he scored some impressive goals, starting with a world-class brace against Samoa in a sensational opening game at St James’ Park.
The former Huddersfield Giants winger then scored again against France before scoring against Greece to end the group stage.
All of this has seen his value to the NRL skyrocket and there has been a real fight for his signature.
Ultimately, after being invited to dinner by former Super League coach Trent Robinson, Young opted to either sign Sydney Roosters over any other suitors or stay with the Newcastle Knights.
He will join the Roosters in 2024 despite interest from the tricolor team in bringing him in early. The Penrith Panthers also want to sign him in 2023 to address their injury issues.
But he remained at Newcastle, and although it was a bit disappointing when he was dropped in a match, the winger has been in fine form.
That culminated today when the Knights defeated the Manly Sea Eagle.
In the dying minutes, Young won brilliantly with one of the weekend’s efforts speeding through the Knights defense, skipping a desperate save halfway and then circling the full-back to score. table.
