LUBBOCK, Texas (KLBK) — Here’s your updated forecast from the KLBK First Alert Weather Center:

Tonight & Tonight:
The weather forecast is mostly clear to cloudy tonight and tonight across the South Plains and Rolling Plains. There is little chance of thunderstorms this evening over the remote plains to the northwest and southwest. Tonight’s lows will be in the mid-60s to mid-70s. Winds will blow from the south at 15 to 20 mph. Chances for rain tonight is 10 percent.

The Hurricane Forecast Center has the northwestern and western portions of the Southern Plains listed in “marginal” (grade 1 out of 5) risk for severe weather from Thursday night through early Friday morning. A better chance of a thunderstorm should be west/northwest of us in New Mexico and north of us in the Texas Panhandle. However, one or two storms can affect the outlined areas and be somewhat severe. Wind gusts of 60-70 mph and hail the size of a quarter (1.00″) are possible.

Friday:
Mostly sunny conditions are forecast across the South Plains and Rolling Plains on Friday. It will be cloudy in the late afternoon and cloudy in the evening. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms late afternoon to evening across the area. Highs will be warmer in the mid-90s. Friday night lows will range from the mid-60s to mid-70s. Winds will blow from the south at 15 to 20 mph throughout. all day and night. The chance for precipitation is 20 percent.

The Storm Prediction Center said the South Plains and Rolling Plains in the north had a “mild” risk of severe weather Friday afternoon through early Saturday morning. Other areas of the South Plains and the Rolling Plains are outlined as “marginal” (level 1 out of 5). Wind gusts of 60-70 mph and hail the size of a quarter (1.00″) are possible.

Extended forecast:
There is very little chance of thunderstorms in the far Northwest and Southwest Plains from Thursday afternoon through Thursday evening. There is a chance of thunderstorms late Friday afternoon through Friday evening across the area. There is also a chance of thunderstorms late Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening across the area. There is very little chance of thunderstorms late afternoon through evening on Monday and Tuesday.

Friday’s highs will warm up into the mid-90s. It’s going to be a bit cooler on Saturday with highs again sometime in the mid-’90s and below. We’re going to get hotter on Sunday with a mid to over 90 year old forecast. Monday’s high will be between the mid-90s and the lower 100s. Over 90 to under 100 are forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Morning low temperatures from the mid-60s to mid 70s Friday through Monday morning. Lower through the mid-70s is the Tuesday through Thursday morning forecast low.

Drought Update:
There is no change in the drought situation across the South Plains and Rolling Plains, according to the latest update from the U.S. Drought Monitor released Thursday, July 6. Parts of the South Plains remain unchanged. classified as “drought-free,” including the Lubbock, Plainview, and Levelland areas. On the other hand, abnormal drought conditions (D0) to severe (D2) continue to be reported over other areas of the South Plains and Rolling Plains. Moderately dry conditions (D1) continue to be reported throughout the Far South South Plains and Rolling Plains. Severe (D2) drought conditions continue to be reported across the remote southwestern plains around the Seminole region.
