Rain Mumbai LIVE | Thane has the highest one-day rainfall in this monsoon season

The Maharashtra city of Thane received a whopping 213.84 mm of rain in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, with a civilian official saying it was the heaviest one-day downpour here during this monsoon season, PTI news agency reported.

Officials earlier said heavy rain had hit Thane and neighboring Palghar districts, causing flooding in many localities, forcing more than 250 families from low-lying areas in Thane to relocate to safer places. They say that several rivers in the adjacent Thane and Raigad have emerged.

Yasin Tadvi, head of disaster management at Thane City Group, said the downpour in the city during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 a.m. Thursday was the heaviest one-day rainfall of this monsoon season.
