Visitors on backfoot at close of play on day one as India reach 119-1

England 246-10 vs India 119-1

Yep, that’s from us today.

We saw quite a bit on Test cricket’s exciting opening day.

England won the toss and batted first, reaching a final score of 246 despite Ben Stokes’ excellent 70.

The Indian spinners proved too good against the England batsmen.

In reply, the home team rallied to over 100 runs and Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 75 runs.

However, the match is in the balance because if England get a few quick wickets, the match will continue.

Otherwise, India may run away.

So it’s all set and I hope you can all join me again tomorrow morning.

Duckett reflects on his first day

England batsman Ben Duckett spoke to the media about the first day of the opening Test match in the series.

He said: “I thought that pitch was quite tricky. There was consistent spin all day, so we were really happy with 246, and the other day we had three or four shots there .

“I thought they played really well at the end, but I can’t see that pitch getting any better.

“We need hooks. Forget the runs, we’ll try to attack them.”
