Armie Hammer will not face sexual assault charges after investigation

Armie Hammer will not face sexual assault charges following a lengthy investigation into the rape allegations in 2021, the Los Angeles County DA’s office has announced.

In 2021, Los Angeles police began “thoroughly scrutinizing” the claims of a woman, identified as Effie, accusing the actor of raping and abusing her in 2017.

Hammer has maintained his innocence throughout, vehemently denying the charges.

After a years-long investigation into the allegations, on Wednesday (May 31), the DA’s office said it was unable to prove the rape allegations “beyond a reasonable doubt” due to a “relationship” complicated relationship” between Hammer and his accuser.

Tiffiny Blacknell, Director of the Department of Communications, said in a statement: “Sexual assault cases are often difficult to prove, which is why we appoint our most experienced prosecutors to watch. review them. “In this case, those prosecutors conducted an extremely thorough review, but determined that at this time there was not enough evidence to charge Mr. Hammer.”

Ms Blacknell added: “As prosecutors, we have a moral responsibility to press charges only in cases that we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt.

“We know that it is very difficult for women to report sexual assaults. Even if we are unable to proceed with prosecution, our victim service representatives will be available to assist those seeking our victim support services. Due to the complexity of the relationship and the inability to prove a forced, non-consensual sexual encounter, we are unable to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Hammer welcomed the prosecutors’ decision in a statement of his own.

“I am grateful to the District Attorney for conducting a thorough investigation and coming to the conclusion that I have stood my ground all this time, that no crime was committed. I look forward to starting the long, difficult process of getting my life back on track once my name has been cleared,” he said.

In her official 2021 statement, Effie alleges that she and Hammer met on Facebook in 2016, when she was 20 years old.

“I fell in love with him immediately. The relationship progressed quickly and the feelings on both sides became really intense,” she said of their four-year relationship.
