LONDON (AP) – Paramount+ has boosted the star power of its shows as it prepares to launch in the UK with an event starring Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Kevin Costner, Jessica Chastain and Moreover.
The expansion provides UK audiences with a number of popular shows such as “Yellowstone” and “Star Trek Discovery” abroad. Subscribers will also get to see Stallone’s scripted TV debut in “Tulsa King,” in which he plays a Mafia.
“It’s just something I’ve always wanted to do, and I don’t know how I’ve been able to avoid playing a bandit for the rest of my life. I don’t get it – that’s how people see me. So finally, an opportunity came,” Stallone said.
The service launches on Wednesday.
Paramount+ joins an already crowded market of UK streaming giants and will compete with Amazon, Netflix and others. It comes with over 8,000 hours of programming, including the expanding “Yellowstone” series. Paramount Studios and MTV Entertainment announced Monday that the sequel starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford will be titled “1923” and will focus on the Prohibition Era after World War I.
Chastain co-starred with Michael Shannon in the “George & Tammy” series, while Davis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Gillian Anderson appeared in “The First Lady,” about the wives of US presidents.
Sonequa Martin-Green is excited that her “Star Trek Discovery” series will reach a wider audience. “Especially with ‘Trek’, I think it should always be celebrated globally for what it stands for and for what it has done.”
Miranda Cosgrove’s hit series “iCarly” will also appear on the streaming platform.
The 29-year-old actor, singer and producer said: “Hopefully that will make everyone here as happy as in the United States. “I’ve played Carly for most of my life. So yeah, that’s definitely something I hold dear in my heart. “
