Formula 1 drivers such as Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris will join the track by an unlikely addition this weekend: Brad Pitt.
The Hollywood star is at Silverstone during the British Grand Prix, scheduled for Sunday, July 9.
Pitt, 59, is filming his new F1 movie for Apple TV+, allegedly titled topDirected by Top Gun: Maverick owner Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment and Hamilton himself.
Before the race, a garage for Pitt’s fictional F1 team was discovered. Above the garage is an image of Pitt wearing a racing suit with the name of his character, Sonny Hayes.
Pitt even has a fictional teammate, snow star Damson Idris, 31, who appears to have Joshua Pearce’s name on the project.
Details about the film are still scarce; however, Kosinski and Bruckheimer revealed some information at a panel held over the weekend of the Miami Grand Prix in May.
The pair said they are “forming an 11th team to film on the track and event from Silverstone through the end of the year”.
Event moderator Will Buxton said the team created the “smallest moveable 6k camcorder ever designed to take viewers into a cockpit” where the film’s stars will drive racing cars. .
“That’s right. Brad Pitt drives F1 from Silverstone onwards,” said Buxton.
Diversity then confirmed that Pitt would not be racing against other drivers on that track and that he would likely be driving a modified junior F2 car, which is significantly less powerful than the F1 car.
During the investor Q&A session in April (via Sports Illustrated), F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said the film will be “quite invasive in terms of production. In a way it’s something that we need to control, but it will be another way to show that Formula 1 never stops.”
According to the film’s official diary entry, Pitt plays “a racer about to retire to compete with a rookie racer against the giants of the sport”.
Hamilton spoke briefly about the project following the announcement last year. The 38-year-old said he is “spending a good time with Brad, it’s amazing”.
Hamilton, the most successful driver in Formula 1 history, revealed that he will not be taking part in the filming.
He said, “It’s really my responsibility and what I take on is to make sure that the cast and crew are diverse.
“It’s really to show people who may never have seen how great the sport really is but also to make sure we really keep the real heritage and the real racing spirit in the movie. .”
