Burnham and Highbridge’s first Pride festival underway today

Organizers of Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s first Pride event said it would take place today (Saturday, July 22) despite the bad weather forecast.

A spokesperson for Pride-On-Sea confirmed: “A little rain wouldn’t stop us, that wouldn’t be in keeping with the spirit of Pride!”

The event begins with the Pride parade from Highbridge train station at 10:30am, passing through King Alfred School and Apex Park to the Old Station Access by the fountain on Pier Street, before concluding at Burnham’s Manor Gardens.

There, the Pride festival is scheduled to take place with entertainment from acoustic drum group Rhythm Harmony and the bell ringers of St Andrew’s Church, along with drag performances by Miss Beaver, Miss Jam Tart, Virina Flower and Tess Drive along with musical artists The Vixens, Corky, Nine Day Fortnight and the title act, Rude Awakening.

Bristol-based DJ Mrs Robinson will rock the tunes and the event will also feature poetry, a dedicated children’s activity area, Giant Jenga sponsored by local businesses, craft and information stalls, bars and hot food.
