Chris Rock is said to have addressed the incident with Will Smith at the 2022 Oscars during a press conference on Friday night (April 8).

Earlier that day, the Academy announced that it would ban Smith from all Academy events for ten years.

During the televised ceremony, Smith slapped Rock on stage and cursed at him after the comedian joked about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

“Jada, I love you. GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see you,” Rock joked, in an apparent reference to Pinkett Smith’s shaved head. Pinkett Smith claimed last year that she shaved her head after struggling with hair loss.

Smith, who won Best Actor later in the ceremony, stepped on stage and hit Rock, before shouting at him twice: “Get my wife’s name out of your mouth.”

Articles based in California Desert sun quotes the comedian as saying at the Fantasy Springs show: “I’m fine, I’ve got a whole show and I don’t talk about it [the Will Smith incident] until I get paid.

“Life is good. I got my hearing back,” he later joked.

According to the outlet, attendees are prohibited from bringing cell phones into the building for the duration of the Rock event, and are provided with lockable bags for all mobile devices.

The actor previously addressed the Oscar-shaking incident during a montage last week, telling audiences he’s “still processing” what happened.
