WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A strong cold spell is sweeping through western Kansas this morning and is expected to move across the entire state by evening.
This weather system will bring a chance of rain and cooler weather for the region, with more “cool” weather for the first part of the work week.
Today’s temperatures would range from the 70s and 80s after the cold front to the 90s to almost 100 before it. The hottest temperatures and highest humidity will occur throughout southeastern Kansas. Scattered showers and some rumbling in the afternoon are expected across northern parts of the state. Later this evening, more thunderstorms are forecast to develop in the immediate vicinity ahead and continue through the night and into early Sunday morning. Severe weather is not expected, however, a few stronger storms could produce small hail and gusts of up to 50 mph. As the front passes, winds are forecast to turn north with gusts of up to 40 mph. Locally heavy rainfall is most likely across southern Kansas, where between 1-1.50 is possible on Sunday. Most measurable rainfall will end after noon. Sunday’s highest temperatures will be in the 70s statewide and could be cooler with persistent rain and clouds around.
Below-normal temperatures continue through Tuesday with highs in the 70s and 80s. The summer heat will return on Wednesday and continue through July 4 with its highest levels in years. 80 and 90. Storms also come into the forecast for the second half of the weekend and holiday.
