D.C.-area forecast: More humid with a few showers today; potentially a pretty nice weekend

A somewhat subjective assessment of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

5/10: Less smoke, more humidity, and occasional showers and thunderstorms.

  • Today: Showers and thunderstorms in some places. High: Over 80 to nearly 90.
  • Tonight: Chances of isolated evening storm. Lows: Around 70 to 75.
  • Tomorrow: Partly sunny, scattered rainstorms into the evening possible. High: Near 90.

The smoke continues to ease today as we stay very warm, but nothing close to the extreme heat that is sweeping the southern US, with places like Phoenix and El Paso on record hot. We have some chance of showers and storms between today and Friday, before possibly a pretty nice summer weekend with lower humidity.

Today (Wednesday): Cloudy skies in the morning, with showers and possible thunderstorms until around 9am. Then this afternoon will be mildly sunny with a few more showers and possibly a storm after 2pm or so. Highest temperature in the afternoon is above 80 to nearly 90 with humidity slightly higher than yesterday, moderate to high with dew point above 60 to nearly 70. Reliability: Medium-High

Tonight: There is still a chance of showers or storms in the evening. On the other hand, partly to cloudy with low temperatures around 70 to 75. Reliability: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thursday): Mild sunshine due to moderate to high humidity. Most of the day will be dry, although showers or thunderstorms are possible in the late afternoon. The peak will again peak in the 80s upper to 90s low. Reliability: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: We could see scattered showers and storms moving in the evening. And we’re on the sultry side with mostly cloudy skies and overnight lows in the 60s to 70s low. Confidence: Average

Cloudy and muggy conditions can last up to Friday in the morning, but we should see more sunshine and less humidity during the day, with just the possibility of individual showers or storms. Friday afternoon highs again rose to near 90, followed by Friday night lows near 70. Reliability: Medium-High

Chances of showers and storms are lower this weekend when drier air visits and can become fragile. In fact, the humidity will be lower in mid-July (dew point is low in the 60s). Combine that with partly sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid-80s to near-90s, and we’ve got a pretty nice summer weekend. Confidence: Average
