D.C.-area forecast: Trying for 70 today, with fewer clouds and showers

A somewhat subjective assessment of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

8/10: Outdoor time for Cinco de Mayo, especially in the morning, try-o. Seventies on the thermometer? Still readable 7-0, despite a brief afternoon rain shower.

  • Today: Mostly sunny mornings. You can shower in the afternoon. High: Mid 60’s to nearly 70’s.
  • Tonight: Partially cloudy Fog patched near dawn. Lows: Mid-40s to around 50s.
  • Tomorrow: Partly sunny with only slight breezes. High: Above 60 to 70 low.
  • Sunday: Chance of light rain in the afternoon. High: Mid 70’s to about 80’s.

A nice Friday morning could give way to some afternoon clouds and possible showers. It’s not a big deal for any outdoor happy hour. Tomorrow will improve by half more for outdoor activities, with warmer temperatures and only a very small chance of an afternoon shower. We were very warm (finally near and above average for this time of year) on Sunday!

Today (Friday): The warm morning sun helps bring us into the 60s before some afternoon clouds roll in and potentially bring us a sudden shower. Seventy degrees can occur in the sunniest, driest places. There could be some northerly winds approaching 15 mph. Reliability: Medium-High

Tonight: Partially cloudy with some patchy fog possibly near dawn. Try to check the full moon rising in the evening – the sky should be clear enough. Temperatures are low in the mid-40s to about 50 degrees downtown after midnight when any sparse winds tend to completely calm down. Confident: Tall

Tomorrow (Saturday): The sky is partly sunny after the fog clears in the morning and in the midst of any group of clouds that pass briefly by midday. A small opportunity for an afternoon shower, but nothing worth planning. High temperatures should be able to get from above 60 to below 70 quite easily. Reliability: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: The sky is partly cloudy as the mild lows only bring temperatures closer to 50 degrees, or mid-50s inside the Beltway. Light but steady winds from the south will remain sufficient to prevent any fog from forming, as it is currently. Reliability: Medium-High

Sunday: Our warm-up continued but so did our (mostly) sunnier morning pattern compared to the afternoon. We even, yes, have a chance of showers or storms in the afternoon. Our pain will be limited, with hard-to-complain high temperatures in the mid-70s to around 80 degrees. Reliability: Medium-High

Sunday night: Chances of showers continue into the night with cloudy skies. The low temperatures don’t cool much because the south-southwest wind brings warmer and more humid air — probably from the mid-50s to the lowest 60s. Confidence: Average

Chances of rain increase Monday on Tuesday. A few showers and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon, especially Tuesday, ahead of a cold front. Relatively humid highs aim for the mid-70s to mid-80s. Breeziness could also increase on Tuesday, but we’ll refine the details as we get closer. Confidence: Average
