Congratulations, Parents: Despicable Me 4 has been made, according to its star Steve Carell.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Carell, who plays (supposedly) villain Felonius Gru, said that a fourth official Despicable Me movie has been made.
“I just started [recording]; he said.
“That’s the next part of the story. Gru and Lucy [Kristen Wiig] Married; they are a family at this point. It’s the next step in their world with the League of Anti-Villains and how their kids are involved in the whole process. “
“It’s the most logical next step in continuing their story as a family together.”
While Gru’s last official appearance (along with his wife Lucy and children Margot, Edith and Agnes) was in the third Despicable Me film, the film saw him removed from the League of Anti-Villains. and reunited with the long-lost twin Dru, the minions have made several appearances since, most notably in the recent film Minions: The Rise of Gru.
The film, which is set to premiere on July 1, tells the story of a young boy named Gru and his minions who from the very beginning turn out to be super villains.
It also boasts an all-star cast, with Michelle Yeoh and Jean-Claude Van Damme joining the group as members of Vicious 6, a super-villain group that Gru greatly idolizes.
However, Carell told Digital Spy that the cast never met in real life, due to having to record their parts in the sound booth.
“You get to meet people who have worked on the film that you’ve never met. It’s exciting. I could say, ‘Yes, I worked with Julie Andrews.’ Put that on my resume; she played my mother,” he said.
“It’s also a badge of honor just like these people jumping in and being in these movies. I think it’s also a testament to the series, that people want to be a part of it.”
However, he admits that he was initially unsure of what was created with the minions.
“When they were first described to me, I couldn’t figure out what they were talking about,” he admits.
“Then when you see them in the movie, it totally makes sense. I think the fact that they’re all so fun, there’s a kindness underpinning it all and decency and love. and sweetness to them all, and they were funny.”
Despicable Me has grown in popularity since the first movie was released in 2010.
Starring Carrel as Gru alongside a cast of yellow-skinned minions, the franchise has become the highest-grossing animated film franchise of all time, grossing $3.7 billion over 12 years. .
