What to expect in the 2023 Women’s World Cup | You ask a question
England kick off the Women’s World Cup against Haiti campaign as the Lions look to follow up on last summer’s Euros win with another major tournament win.
Sarina Wiegman’s side enter the World Cup as one of the favorites, despite losing stars Leah Williamson, Beth Mead and Fran Kirby to injury, and are expected to get off to a winning Group D start to their debut team Haiti.
In Williamson’s absence, her centre-back partner Millie Bright will command the team in Australia and the Lions have been boosted by the news that their reserve captain is fit enough to start. Haiti, ranked 53rd in the world, joins China and Denmark in Group D.
England’s World Cup preparations come amid controversy over bonus payments and other commercial issues, but the players have agreed to pause discussions during the tournament.
