Glastonbury: Drone footage shows how big the festival really is
Arctic Monkeys fans are breathing a sigh of relief after Glastonbury co-host Emily Eavis confirmed Alex Turner will be able to perform tonight (Friday, June 23).
The frontman of rock band Sheffield has suffered from acute laryngitis, but appears to be well enough to take part in the Pyramid Stage tonight, marking the band’s third time topping the festival.
Meanwhile, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has been spotted backstage at the festival, in an image shared on the official Foo Fighters fan page on Twitter via user @RichardWoodyWood. The strongly-believed American rock band is behind the mysterious play “The Churnups”, which was performed in front of Royal Blood and Arctic Monkeys on the PYramid Stage tonight.
Friday will see performances on the festival’s various stages from pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen, avant-garde pop-rock duo Sparks, electronic band Hot Chip, duo Rock musician Royal Blood and Nigerian singer Wizkid.
The BBC is broadcasting the festival on all its main channels, including BBC Radio, iPlayer and BBC Sounds.
Sharleen Spiteri backs Emily Eavis past all-male 2023 Glastonbury heads
Sharleen Spiteri, frontwoman of Scottish rock band Texas, appeared to settle the controversy surrounding all-male headliners at this year’s Glastonbury. As she revealed Guns N’ Roses and Arctic Monkeys were the frontrunners to join Elton John on the Pyramid Stage this weekend, Eavis said guard that there is a “pipeline problem” that prevents women from reaching the top.
“We are doing our best to get the pipeline to be developed,” she said. “This starts with record companies, radio stations. I can shout as loud as I want but we need to get everyone on board.
She said the 2024 festival will see two women at the top, including one confirmed and one “soon to be” confirmed.
Performing on the Pyramid Stage, Spiteri said Eavis was an “enthusiastic advocate” for women and suggested anything else was “not cool”.

Spotted: Spencer Matthews was asked to join the right queue
Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews didn’t look very happy when asked to join the concession queue, according to our on-site sources.
He has previously admitted to trying to skip the queue at the airport, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s why he’s here.
Sorry Spence, no palm grease this time!

Spotted: Dave Grohl backstage on the Pyramid Stage!
Adding fuel to the rumor that the mysterious band The Churnups is, in fact, the US rock band Foo Fighters, is the scene where frontman Dave Grohl hangs out on the Pyramid Stage today.
You can see the arctic monkey’s giant mirror sphere behind him. Surely this is the last proof we need that Foos are churnups?! They will perform just before Royal Blood, at 6:15pm.
