IND A Vs ENG Lions Day Three: Matthew Potts Stars As England Close In On Victory

India A added 12 more runs to their overnight tally to claim 227 runs in the first innings of the first Test against the England Lions today (January 19) and now need 331 more runs with six wickets in hand to avoid defeat in Ahmedabad.

India A v England Lions scorecard

England continued to hold their ground in the match after dismissing the hosts for 227, needing just seven overs in the first session to put the last two India A batsmen ahead by 326 runs . Patidar, who continued on 140, reached 150 before falling to Matthew Potts, becoming one of his four victims. The fact that no other batsman from the side could take more than 25 runs shows how dominant Madhya Pradesh’s right-handers are.

Patidar’s knock included 19 fours and five sixes, scoring 151 runs in 158 deliveries.

England Lions resisted the temptation to ask India A to progress, deciding to bat for the second time. Keaton Jennings, who scored 154 in the first innings, continued with the same attacking form, scoring 64 off 65 deliveries. Despite Alex Lees and Josh Bohannon falling into the seven-ball gap, India A never had a chance as Jennings kept the momentum going at the other end.

He combined with James Rew to take the score from 21-2 to 115 before becoming Pradosh Ranjan Paul’s third first-class victim. The Odisha wicket-keeper also sent back Dan Mousley as England lost three wickets for 36 runs. They eventually declared on 163-6, leaving India A with a target of 490 runs.

In response, India A saw captain Abhimanyu Easwaran fall for a duck in the first innings as Potts continued to dominate the game. He returned to send back the first innings Patidar center before Sarfaraz Khan and opener Sai Sudharsan put on a combined 86 runs, with both batsmen reaching their respective fifties.

At the end of day three, the English Lions also had Sarfaraz and Paul back in the pavilion, needing six more players over the next two days to take a commanding lead of the series. India A need 331 more runs.
