India will play a Test match against England after losing the T20I series 2-1, but that will not dampen their spirits as they return to play the longest format in international cricket on the field home. The Test match, which begins on December 14 at the DY Patil Academy of Sports in Navi Mumbai, will be India’s first home Test match in nine years. The last time they played was against Australia in 2021.
Should women’s cricket have its own WTC?
The arrival of the England Test heralds the beginning of a double party for Indian women’s cricket. Given the lack of Test cricket in the women’s circuit, Indians won’t be complaining as they have two Tests scheduled in the next ten days. India want a strong start and history, an inevitable part of the sport, offers consolation to the hosts, as they have only lost to England once in 14 matches since their rivalry. Their rivalry began in 1986, and Harmanpreet, who led India in Tests for the first time, wanted to keep that proud record intact.
India women’s last match against Heather Knight’s England team resulted in a draw in June 2021 at Bristol. Mandhana scored 78 in the first innings, while teenage Shafali Verma led with 96 and 63. England, on the other hand, have more recent Test cricket experience. England met Australia in an exciting match at Nottingham in June, surpassing Tammy Beaumont’s sensational 208 in the first innings, but the hosts were beaten by 89 runs. India wants to add to its winning tally and they are well prepared to do so.
INDW vs ENGW: MATCH RECORD
The two teams have played each other 14 times in Test cricket, with Indian Women winning twice. In red-ball cricket, England Women have beaten India only once. The last match between India Women and England Women took place in July 2021 at Bristol and that contest ended in a draw. In June 1986, India Women and England Women played their first Test match.
