On the one hand, Trump is willing to ignore past criticism – even harsh criticism – as long as the lawmaker in question proceeds to show the necessary docility. Trump recently endorsed Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance even though Vance harshly criticized him in 2016 as unfit to be president.

On the other hand, failing to fully support his efforts to overturn the 2020 election has become a red line for Trump. He has given most of his non-incumbent endorsements to people who believe in honest elections and spends most of his venom these days on those he believes have wronged him. after Election Day 2020.

McCarthy occupies something of an average estate here. He appears to have won goodwill from Trump for resisting the committee on January 6. But will Trump really step forward and let someone who has resigned from his position rise a level? such power – potentially leading the House of Representatives in the 2024 election?
