Love Island star Afia Tonkmor has stated that this year’s crop the islanders don’t know who Gemma Owen’s father is.
The ITV2 dating show is now in its second week, with costume rider Gemma, daughter of former England footballer Michael Owen, among the contestants.
While Gemma appeared to hint at her father’s identity earlier in the series, this information has yet to be officially discussed on the show. This is despite Jacques O’Neill, Gemma’s ex, being in the mansion.
The first contestant to be thrown from the villa this year was bombshell Afia, who joined Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.
Doing an Instagram Q&A about her time on the show, Afia insists she never heard the islanders discuss Michael.
“I knew before I got in because I watched her VT,” Afia said. “But if people know, they don’t care…no one really cares.”
She later added that Michael “never, never spoke of my presence”.
Gemma was originally teamed up with Liam Llewellyn, who left the villa of his own accord after 5 days. Knowing who Gemma’s father was when he was gone, Liam couldn’t contain his surprise – especially as a Newcastle United fan.
Gemma later teamed up with Davide Sanclimenti, before teaming up with Luca Bish. While it’s a shock to see new girl Danica Taylor choose Luca, he and Gemma are still in love.
