Matilda the Musical: Netflix UK users rush to watch film six months after its US addition

Netflix UK viewers are flocking to see a new title after it was finally added to the service.

Usually, movies and TV shows are released on the platform on the same day in different territories. But there are times when some countries have to wait a little longer than others to receive the goods.

One such case happened in December, when the movie adaptation of Matilda The musical was added to Netflix in the United States and Canada just weeks after it hit theaters.

This caused some confusion among UK and Irish subscribers, who believed they would be able to stream the series on Christmas Day.

However, Sony Pictures Releasing International, which distributed the film domestically, has revealed that the film will be available to stream on Netflix in the UK and Ireland six months later.

This is because Netflix owns the international rights to the film directed by Matthew Warchus.

On Sunday (June 25), the series was finally added to the streaming service – and quickly rose to the top of the most watched charts.

However, there’s sad news for Netflix users elsewhere: the series will be removed from the service in many territories on June 30.

Matilda musical premiered at the London Film Festival in October 2022. independence called it “a fun, whimsical delight”, praising child star Alisha Weir’s lead performance.
