Mickey Rourke has faced backlash after sharing praise for the disgraced film director, Roman Polanski.

On Thursday, April 14, the actor posted a photo on his Instagram from behind the scenes of his latest film, which he is working on in Switzerland with the Polish-French director.

Rourke’s caption read: “Once again, at the end of the day, a pleasure to work with the legendary and talented Roman Polanski. To work with such a director, I feel it is a great privilege that his film has integrity, style, class and unpredictability.

“You know, working with a man who has been in the cinema for almost 60 years, you can always learn something new. I don’t usually chat with most directors but Roman Polanski is more than just another director.”

“God bless that man, I can’t wait to make another movie with him,” Rourke added.

Polanski became an American fugitive when he fled the country in 1978 after pleading guilty to raping a 13-year-old girl.

Fans were shocked by the actor’s praise for the director, with many appalling comments on the post.

“Cheers for pedophiles. Unfollow,” wrote one user.

“Oh my God! Are you aware of your history with underage children? WTF Mickey!! God bless the man?? Are you losing your mind? “other is added.

Someone commented: “Polanski, you won’t let him babysit your kids how he is so valued Il [sic] never knew.”

One person noted: “A paedoph1le [sic] not a good person. “

While it has yet to be confirmed which movie the two are working on, it was announced in 2021 that Polanski will be back behind the camera for PalaceSet in Switzerland.
