The Mission: Impossible franchise will be expanding next year, with the first half of a two-part movie starring Dead Reckoning Part One.

Tom Cruise returns to play Ethan Hunt for the seventh time in the series, but this time it looks like he has the world against him.

Overnight, the first trailer for Dead Reckoning Part One was leaked online.

It’s not yet known when the trailer will be released, but it is expected to hit theaters alongside the launch of Top Gun: Maverick.

The trailer is definitely legit, as it shows a brand new shot of Cruise battling it out in a stunning setting alongside some old fan favorites.

Simon Pegg returns with Cruise, Ving Rhames and Rebecca Ferguson, all of whom make up the fractured secret service team that is suffering another world-ending disaster.

It also shows the arrival of several newcomers to the series, including Hayley Atwell.

But most exciting is the return of an iconic character: Alanna Mitsopolis.

WARNING: Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One Trailer

Alanna is played by Vanessa Kirby and made her debut in Mission Impossible – Fallout.

She drew the line between the good guys and the bad guys in the previous movie, but this time it looks like she’s on the run.

Snapshots show her running past a train while panicking as she looks behind.

Meanwhile, Cruise’s Hunt can be seen riding atop a train – perhaps the very one that Alanna is on? – while fighting a mysterious enemy.

Before the end of the trailer, the train crashes off a cliff, prompting Hunt to make a daring escape in a way only the Cruise characters know.

That’s not the hardest part of the trailer, though.

An unidentified assailant spoke to Hunt through glass, sparkling lyrical about a day’s ambiguous ending.

He said: “You’re fighting to save an ideal that doesn’t exist. There never was. You need to pick a side.”

Shortly after, a man wearing a gas mask is seen detonating an air grenade in a room full of men in clothes.

Judging by this scene and these comments, it looks like Hunt will be fighting off a corporate villain determined to raze the planet once again.

Hunt also engages in some death-defying stunts throughout the trailer – in casual Tom Cruise style.

Perhaps the most startling moment is the final seconds of the trailer, which shows Cruise riding a motorbike off the cliff and hurling away with a parachute.

With so much going on, it’s easy to forget that this two-part Mission: Impossible event could be the beginning of the end for Cruise’s legendary character.

Cruise has been playing Hunt for over 25 years up to this point.

The epic scale of the two-part, multi-million dollar film duo suggests big things are coming for the franchise.

Does this mean that the incredible upcoming movies will see Hunt killed in one final hurdle?

If so, it could repeat the final scenes of the latest James Bond film, No Time To Die, which does the same thing with Daniel Craig’s version of the character.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One hits theaters on July 14, 2023.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part two hits theaters on June 28, 2024.
