What happened last night

Northumbria Police confirmed that they received a report of the incident shortly before 11:45pm yesterday (Tuesday).

A1 remains closed while police investigate

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police continued:

“The A1068 near Alnwick remains closed and local diversions are in place.

“Officers remain in the area to fulfill requests and offer any reassurance to the public.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell us something’ page on our website or by calling 101 log citation NP-20230411-1308.”

NEWS: Pedestrian dies in collision on A1

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said:

“Just before 11:45pm last night (Tuesday), police received reports that a car had collided with a pedestrian on the northbound A1 at Alnwick, near the A1068.

“However the emergency services attended, sadly the person was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

“Their families have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this difficult time.”

Where is the problem on A1?

The A1 motorway in Northumberland is closed to the north between the A1068 near Alnwick and the B1340 near Denwick due to a police-directed incident.

More subway delays

Tyne and Wear Metro, said: “Due to problems with trains leaving the station this morning, there are still delays in service between St James and South Shields in both directions. Apologies for any inconvenience. have caused.”

Spend a lot of time on the journey saying National Highway

National Highways wrote on Twitter: “#A1 in #Northumberland remains closed northbound between #A1068 and #B1340 near #Alnwick due to a critical incident.

“If you’re traveling in the area this morning, please allow plenty of journey time and expect delays.”

A lot of rush hour traffic is now clear, but here are some points you still need to keep in mind

  • The A1 closes in Northumberland at Alnwick between the A1068 and B1340.
  • Heavy traffic on the A1 Western Bypass heading north around the A167 Angel of the North coming from Chester-le-Street.
  • Traffic lines up on the A184 Askew Eastbound Road at the A167 Tyne Bridge Approach.
  • Traffic lines up on the A1058 Jesmond Road (Coast Road) in front of the A167(M) Central Expressway.
  • Traffic was busy but still moving at the double roundabout of Benton Park Road.

The Jarrow incident has now been cleared

The Jarrow incident on the Northbound A19 at A185 has been resolved and the congestion remains normal.

In-place redirect due to A1 . closure

Road users should follow the triangular navigational symbol on the traffic sign.

  • Exit A1 onto A1068 and head north until the roundabout.
  • At the roundabout, take the first exit 300m.
  • Turn right onto the B1340 and head north for 1.5 km to the Denwick intersection.
  • Rejoin A1 using Denwick Junction north on the slide.

A19 is partially blocked at A185

A19 Northbound is partially blocked and traffic is delayed due to incident at A185. More like we have it.

Update on the roads

Here’s another update on traffic and travel this morning.

  • Usual delays on the A1 Western Bypass Northbound around the A167 Angel of the North coming from Chester-le-Street. Travel time is ten minutes.
  • Normally traffic is slow on the Northbound A19 at the Tyne Tunnel. Travel time is ten minutes.
  • Heavy traffic at A167 at A688 Thinford roundabout.
  • Heavy traffic on the A167 Newcastle Southbound Road around the A690 Neville’s Cross Bank in Durham.
  • Delays on the A184 Felling Bypass heading west at the Heworth traffic light.
  • Heavy traffic on the A1058 Jesmond (Coast Road) empties in front of the A167(M) Central Expressway.
  • Traffic is lined up at the entrances at the Benton Park double roundabout.

  • A1 Northbound closes between A1068 and B1340.
  • Heavy traffic on the Northbound A19 at the Tyne Tunnel. Travel time is five minutes.
  • Normally traffic is slow on the A1 Western Bypass Northbound around the A167 Angel of the North coming from Chester-le-Street. Travel time is five minutes.
  • Line up traffic on the A19 at the A189 Moor Farm Roundabout in Annitsford.
  • Traffic is typically slow on the A1058 Jesmond (Coast Road) in front of the A167(M) Central Motorway.
  • Traffic is normally slow on the A194(M) and A194 Leam Lane in both directions at the A184 Newcastle Road (White Mare Pool Roudnabout).
  • Traffic slows on the A184 Askew Eastbound Road at the entrance to the Tyne Bridge A167.
  • Delays on the A184 Felling Bypass heading west at the Heworth traffic light.

Quietly on the roads

The street is quiet, though it gets busier as rush hour approaches. Here’s what’s happening right now.

  • Traffic is typically slow at the A1 Western Bypass Northbound around the A167 Angel of the North from Chester-le-Street.
  • Normally traffic is low on the A690 between Roundabout A1(M) Carville and A181 Gilesgate Roundabout.
  • A1231 St. Michael’s Way in Sunderland is busy but moves between the A183 Livingstone Road and A690 Durham Road Roundabout.
  • Normal Congestion on the Entrances at the Benton Park Double Roundabout.

“Important notice: Due to train problems leaving the station this morning, trains between the Airport and South Hylton 1 and Longbenton platforms to St James are currently delayed in both directions.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

Strong winds and heavy rain expected throughout the day

The Northeast has strong winds, occasional rain and showers on Wednesday. The Met Office said:

“Remaining unrest through Wednesday with strong winds continuing. Frequent rain and heavy showers throughout the day, possible hail and thunder, cold winter on high ground.

“Feels cooler than in previous days. Maximum temperature is 8°C.”
