Sarfaraz Khan scores 96 vs England Lions in practice match day after Test snub

New Delhi,UPDATED: Jan 13, 2024 17:31 IST

Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz Khan continues to let his bat do the talking after once again being overlooked as India announced their Test squad for the two Tests against England. Sarfaraz was one of the names dropped by the BCCI and the Indian cricket team for the team to face England in the first two Tests at Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.

Following the trend, Sarfaraz scored a crucial knock of 96 runs against England Lions in India A’s practice match at Ahmedabad. Sarfaraz’s crucial innings became another case of the player ahead of the Indian cricket team and BCCI selectors to get a chance to play for the National team.

After Sarfaraz’s match against the England Lions, there was a lot of criticism aimed at the BCCI for omitting the names of players from the squad to play against England. Although he performed exceptionally well in domestic and first-class cricket, he scored 3692 runs in the following 63 innings.

This is certainly not the first time Sarfaraz has played well with the bat. In December 2023, Sarfaraz scored a stunning 64th century in an intra-squad match in Pretoria. Even after scoring such big numbers, Sarfaraz missed out on being called up by India to the Test squad to face South Africa.

Even after amassing tons of runs in domestic cricket, Sarfaraz’s continued omission from the Indian national team has raised quite a few eyebrows. With the Indian team currently facing Afghanistan in a three-match T20 series and an upcoming five-match Test series against England at the end of January, it will be interesting to see if Srafraz’s name comes up soon. whether it will attract the attention of Indian selectors or not.
