Street chemists are facing a shortage of hay fever drugs due to a lack of key ingredients.

When the Met Office warned of rising pollen levels in parts of England, it was found that stocks of chlorphenamine maleate, an active ingredient in brands such as Piriton, were running low.

Boots says four of its 90 hay fever relief products have been affected by the shortage.
