Severe storms are expected today as the entire observation area has a slight risk of storm severity. Major threats would include hail, gusty winds and a minor threat to an isolated tornado.
The activity is likely to begin shortly after noon and continue overnight and into tomorrow. Today’s storms will be sporadic, but by tomorrow they will be more isolated.
As far as the tropics- Two tropical systems are developing off the coast of Africa.
We watched a Tropical Wave in the tropical Central Atlantic. It continues to produce rain and storms are becoming more organized. A tropical depression or tropical storm is expected to form around the next day from the system. The chance of forming in the next 48 and 7 days is now 90%.
The second system is located in the tropical East Atlantic Ocean, just a few hundred miles south of the Cape Verde Islands. It remains disorganized and has only a 10 to 20 percent chance of growing over the next 48 hours to 7 days.
