David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan cast as new Superman and Lois Lane in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy

The next Superman has officially been cast.

DC Studios announced on Tuesday (June 27) that David Coreswet will play the Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan will play his love interest, Lois Lane.

The couple will debut Superman in 2025 Superman: Legacydirected by the co-CEO of DC Studios and Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker James Gunn.

Coronswet, 29, Booms in Ryan Murphy’s 2019 Netflix Drama Series Politicians before starring in A24’s popular indie thriller Pearl last year.

Meanwhile, Brosnahan, 32, is best known for starring in the popular historical comedy series Amazon Prime Video Miraculous Madame Maisel. Her film roles include Carrier (2020), and You Are My Woman (2020).

Gunn responded to news of the casting on Twitter, writing: “Exactly! (They are not only amazing actors but also amazing people.)

The news ends months of speculation about who will be the next actor after Henry Cavill takes on Clark Kent (AKA Superman).

In a report published on June 8, insiders claimed that DC co-leaders Peter Safran and Gunn are meeting Nicholas Hoult (Wonderful thing), Corenswet and Tom Brittney (Grantchester) for the famous superhero role.

Emma Mackey (Sex education), Brosnahan and Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton), meanwhile, is said to be for Lois Lane.

Gunn had previously quelled a rumor in March that Privilege of a wallflower star Logan Lerman was the “top pick” for the role of Superman.

The director replied curtly, saying, “For the record, I don’t know who it was.”

In December of last year, it was confirmed that Cavill would not be returning to his superhero role, although the studio announced that “please announce his return in October”.

Cavill started his Superman tenure in 2013 Steel man. He reprized his role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Alliance justice (2017) (and the director’s cut in 2021).

Superman: Legacy will be the first film in the new era of the connected DC Universe, following Matt Reeves’ Batman Part IIslated for release in October 2025.

According to reports, the film will tell the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas.
