Taika Waititi has said that he “appears very gay”.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker made the remark in a recent interview with Wired.
The publication noted that he was “randomly thought to be weird”, a review that Waititi summed up as: “I look very gay”.
Wired adds that this perception of Waititi is a result of both his fashion sense and the characters he plays in movies that often pass through camp.
Waititi has starred in several of his films, including 2019 Jojo Rabbitwas nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture in 2020. In it, he played the narcissist Adolf Hitler, Jojo’s (Roman Griffin Davis) imaginary friend.
He is also famous for his role in fantasy movies What do we do in the darkin which he plays the sweet vampire Viago.
The 46-year-old is currently dating British singer Rita Ora.
Elsewhere in the interview, Waititi said he found everyone around him, including his family, “really exhausted.”
“It was just really exhausting,” he said. With whom – it doesn’t matter to whom. Even my family. But I’ve certainly never met one.”
