A large crowd flocked to the Gloucestershire town to witness the coronation of its “Chicken Coronation”.

About 1,000 people attended the chicken’s coronation at Cinderford’s Triangle on Saturday.

Buffy is a cross between Buff-Orpington Sussex and is “a bit showy and a bit showy”, her owner said.

The Mayor of Cinderford Cllr Roger Sterry said he struggled to pick one winner out of the 34 chickens that signed up for the role.

Cinderford Town Crier Jeremy Holland reveals that Buffy will be crowned the Crowning Chicken.

Buffy, a female hen owned by Anne Lameraft, is one of eight that she raises in her small flock.

‘Only in Cinderford’

Mr Holland told the crowd watching the coronation: “It’s crazy, as soon as we had a famous chicken in the Triangle, we drew a crowd like this. Only in Cinderford, this is this. could just happen.”

The town messenger then shouted: “Oyez, oyez, good people of Cinderford, and across our great country, we are gathered here today for this exhilarating moment.

“Because in our capital we crown King Charles III, here in Cinderford we crown our bird too.

“Hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray, Queen Buffy well done,” followed by cheers from the rain-soaked crowd.
