Barbados, December 11: Cricket West Indies have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against England on Sunday. One of the major highlights of the T20I squad is the inclusion of 35-year-old batsman all-rounder Andre Russell. The Caribbean hitman last played a T20I match in 2021 against Australia. After nearly two years, he was called up to participate in the 20-year-old series.
Rovman Powell will lead the Caribbean side in the five-match series starting on December 13 and ending on December 22. Wicketkeeper batsman Shai Hope has been named vice-captain.
Meanwhile, Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder, who were not called up for the ODI series against England, have been named in the 15-member squad.
Bowling all-rounder Gudakesh Motie, who impressed in the ODI series after he took four wickets in his three matches has also been added to the five-match T20I series. On the other hand, Romario Shepherd who scored five goals in the 50-over series was included in the squad.
While announcing the squad, Cricket West Indies chief selector Desmond Haynes said this will be their last T20I series of the year before they go on to host the 2024 T20 World Cup alongside the United States.
“This will be the West Indies’ last home T20I series in 2023, as they prepare to be one of two hosts for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA in June 2024 ,” Haynes told ESPNcric Information. The first T20I match will be played in Barbados. Meanwhile, the next two matches will be held in Grenada.
The final two matches will take place in Trinidad.
