Paramount’s cancellation of the Western hit series comes months after it was rumored that the series’ director Kevin Costner was leaving amid rumors that he’d locked his head with creator Taylor Sheridan.

It is reported that the actor’s filming schedule for another project has left gold stone crew with minimal time to complete filming.

Costner’s attorney denied the claim at the time, stating: “The idea that Kevin is only available to work a week into the second half of season five of gold stone is an absolute lie.”

It has been confirmed that Sheridan is working on a side story. While details about the sequel’s cast and plot are still shrouded in secrecy, it’s been reported that Matthew McConaughey will play the lead role.
